BJP’s UP outreach: First task for 7 new Union ministers from the state | India News – Times of India

NEW DELHI: With just months left for the crucial assembly elections in Uttar Pradesh, the BJP has started chalking out a strategy to reach out to different sections of society through the recently-inducted Union ministers.
BJP president J P Nadda has asked all the 40 newly-inducted Union ministers, including those from Uttar Pradesh, to carry out a ‘Jan Ashirwad Yatra’ covering three to four parliamentary constituencies, including their own, and four to five districts in their states to “seek blessings from the people”, a senior leader told PTI.

As many as seven new ministers hail from Uttar Pradesh. These include Pankaj Choudhary, S P Singh Baghel, Bhanu Pratap Singh Verma, B L Verma, Ajay Mishra, Kaushal Kishor, and BJP ally Apna Dal leader Anupriya Singh Patel.
Parliamentarians from the state have been asked to help the ministers in these activities, sources said.
They said these “yatras”, which will cover 200 assembly segments, will act as a launchpad for the BJP’s campaign for the assembly elections in states like UP in the next few years.
Caste equations
Earlier this month, Prime Minister Narendra Modi expanded his Union Cabinet for the first time during his second term in office.
Out of the seven ministers from UP, three each are from OBC and SC categories, while one is Brahmin.
Thus, the ministers will help the BJP reach out to different communities and help balance its caste equations as it seeks to counter regional parties like the BSP and SP.
Party chief Nadda has been holding meetings with party MPs from the state in different groups to fine-tune the BJP’s strategy for the hustings next year.
The BJP is looking to retain its grip on power under chief minister Yogi Adityanath, who will be seeking a second straight term in office.
BJP had stormed to power in the state in the 2017 assembly polls, winning 312 seats in the 403-member assembly.
SP to go on ‘cycle yatra’ on August 5 across UP
Meanwhile, the Samajwadi Party is planning to take out a ‘Samajwadi Cycle Yatra’ at the tehsil-level in all districts of Uttar Pradesh on August 5 to highlight price rise and the “anti-democratic attitude” of the BJP government.
“On directions of the party president Akhilesh Yadav, SP will take out Samajwadi Cycle Yatra at the tehsil level in all the districts on August 5 on the birth anniversary of party leader Janeshwar Mishra. This yatra will cover 5 to 10 kilometres,” SP chief spokesman Rajendra Chaudhary said.
“The yatra will highlight issues like unemployment, price rise, corruption, police atrocities, exploitation of women, youths, farmers and anti-democratic attitude of the BJP government in the state,” he said.
